NCH Healthcare System Joins VHA
Allen S. Weiss
Bolstering its commitment to improve its clinical and operational performance, the NCH Healthcare System, a not-for-profit, two-hospital health system based in Naples, Fla., has joined VHA Inc., the national health care network.
"VHA has the potential to provide NCH with supply chain opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality outcomes that NCH might not be able to achieve on its own," said Allen S. Weiss, MD, president and CEO of NCH. "In addition to membership in VHA, NCH will also be a member of the Upper Midwest Consolidated Service Center, a VHA Supply Network of members who have come together collaboratively to pursue enhancements to existing supply chain opportunities whenever possible.
"The UMCSC has been very successful in achieving its goals and we expect NCH to gain both financial benefits and operational efficiencies through this membership. We also see this as an ideal opportunity for NCH to network with luminary organizations to share expertise and explore other opportunities for improvement."
Dr. Weiss also sees VHA IMPERATIV Advantage as a strategic edge for NCH, offering business intelligence to guide improvements in clinical quality and performance. VHA IMPERATIV, a comprehensive integrated solution, provides all members with advisory services, proprietary analytics, knowledge assets and collaboration. With VHA IMPERATIV, hospital executives can gain insight from data such as patient throughput, costs, patient safety, core measures, HCAHPS scores, readmission rates, and other areas and compare performance against customized peer groups.
"With its long history of clinical excellence and commitment to quality care including being recognized as a top hospital by U.S. News and World Report, NCH is a welcome addition to our nationwide network," said Curt Nonomaque, VHA president and CEO. "We anticipate many opportunities to collaborate with NCH to achieve their vision of being one of America's top-quality health care organizations, demonstrating exceptional performance supported by strategic cost savings and quality improvement initiatives."
As a VHA member, NCH will also benefit from peer-to-peer networking, sharing insights and best practices while taking advantage of offerings such as the VHA Leading Practice Blueprints®, which capture clinical practices, cultural influences and context that help hospitals to become top performers.
