Texas’s first AC Hotel by Marriott® and Residence Inn® Marriott® opens today in historic Mercantile Commerce Building
NewcrestImage, a premier hotel management and construction company in the Southwest, announces another addition to its portfolio of award-winning hotels with today’s opening of the dual-branded AC Hotel by Marriott® and Residence Inn® Marriott®. Located within the 193,265 -square-foot Mercantile Commerce building, which has been vacant for the last 25 years, NewcrestImage celebrates not only the revival of this historic landmark but also the unveiling of Texas’s first AC Hotel.
The 249-room, 21-story hotel will feature two separate lobbies, lounge and dining areas, and state-of the-art business centers. The hotels will share a bar, fitness facility, and indoor swimming pool. NewcrestImage’s commitment to excellence is exemplified in each of the hotel’s innovative design, customized décor and furnishings, and outstanding service. The hotel is managed by General Manager Kellie Adams and Director of Sales Monica Weagel.

AC Hotel – A New Way to Hotel
Celebrating the beauty of clean, simple and modern design with a European soul and Spanish roots, the AC Hotels brand was founded by renowned hotelier Antonio Catalan (‘AC’) in Spain and has grown to become one of the most respected hotel brands globally. Inspired by the creative, busy traveler with an entrepreneurial spirit, AC Hotels offers European sensibility and functional design where you get only what you need without paying for what you don’t.
The AC Hotel – Dallas Downtown, designed by Duncan Miller Ullmann, is a curated collection of inviting furnishings, modern designs, and textures that evoke the feeling of a well-crafted art gallery. Set among organic curves and shapes, including the building’s original curved staircase, terrazzo floors, and travertine walls, the AC Lobby features communal tables, ample plug-ins, and frictionless service Kallpods that enable guests to immediately request a staff member’s attention. A collection of commissioned art pieces from around the world, all inspired by the fibers of a piece of Texas rope, accent the neutral-toned color palette. Step inside the AC Market for an assortment of snacks and sweets, including local favorites Dude Sweet Chocolate, Killer Pecans, and Dallas Caramel Company.
Relax in the AC Lounge (pictured left), providing local craft beers, signature cocktails and a curated selection of tapas style small bites of spicy fava beans or olives, charcuteries and cheeses, delightful sweets of macarons, goat cheese and honey cheesecake, and other delectable items. The AC Kitchen, open for breakfast, is the welcoming heart of a European home, inviting guests to a proper continental breakfast selection of flaky croissants, savory egg tarts, freshly sliced Iberico prosciutto, and coffee, among other items.
The 128 guest rooms are an oasis of European-inspired décor with clean lines and organic color palette, ‘floating’ furniture, complimentary high-speed Internet access, and the little simplicities in life: open closet, comfortable beds, plush pillows, and other upscale amenities. AC Hotel’s signature lavender sachet evening ritual offers a soothing fragrance for a good night’s sleep.
Meeting and Special Event Spaces equipped with the latest audio-visual technology are located just off the Mezzanine level, including a private executive level boardroom with seating for up to 12 guests and two media salons that seat five and six guests. Read a book or utilize the complimentary computers, printers, and wireless connectivity in the AC Library.
Residence Inn – Extend Your Stay
The 121-room Residence Inn is designed with the extended stay traveler in mind. Every guest room is a suite with choice of studio or one bedroom options that afford guests a more spacious and functional living space. Each suite is complete with fully equipped kitchens, so guests have the control over what they eat and how their food is prepared without ever having to leave the hotel; Residence Inn offers a few necessities at The Market, a 24/7 self-serve food and beverage pantry, as well as the convenience of free grocery delivery and a complimentary hot breakfast buffet to start the day. Guests can also mix and mingle with an innovative evening social called The RI Mix, a relaxing yet engaging experience that offers complimentary sips, bites, and good conversation three times per week.
NewcrestImage elevated the brand’s well-known apartment-style accommodations with the Residence Inn – Dallas Downtown location. While AC Hotel embraces an international flair and subdued color palette, the design team at Duncan Miller Ullmann localized the Residence Inn theme, spotlighting Dallas’s signature landmarks and welcoming southern charm. Throughout the Residence Inn, natural wood paneling contrasts with pops of color from furniture pieces and décor elements. Custom-made pillows reveal an abstract of the city’s majestic Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Headboards mimic the stitching of cowboy boots. Lighting fixtures display the beautiful city skyline which also served as the inspiration and theme for the commissioned art collection created by local Dallas artists.
