Following an undefeated year in the courtroom and nearly $1 billion in jury awards for clients, name principal Brad Caldwell of Dallas' Caldwell Cassady & Curry has been named to Law360's 2017 Rising Stars list of the nation's top lawyers under the age of 40.
Mr. Caldwell is one of only five lawyers in the U.S. and the only Texas attorney to be named to the exclusive list in the intellectual property category. Mr. Caldwell led three trial teams to victory during 2016 in a series of intellectual property cases heard in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He and fellow name principals Jason Cassady and Austin Curry helped VirnetX Inc. win two patent infringement awards against Apple Inc. for $625.6 million and $302.4 million. Mr. Caldwell and Mr. Curry also won a $22.1 million award for Cellular Communications Equipment LLC in another trial based on Apple's infringement of CCE's Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network technology patent.
In addition to the successful year in the courtroom, Mr. Caldwell also helped an individual inventor resolve a long-running dispute with his business partners after being wrongly shut out of a multibillion-dollar company he helped create. The firm's negotiation of a significant confidential agreement ended more than six years of federal court litigation.
