Helping Our Heroes Foundation is pleased to announce that Photojournalist MSgt. Jeremy Lock, Retired will be the keynote speaker of its seventh annual dinner and auction, which will be Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Las Colinas Country Club. The annual Golf Tournament will be held Monday, September 11, 2017, also at Las Colinas Country Club, and will feature a special appearance by MLB Hall of Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.
Founded in 2011, Helping Our Heroes is a local organization with a vision to help those who serve so that we can continue to enjoy the freedoms of living in the greatest country on earth. The heroes honored may come from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or National Guard or may be local police, firemen or first responders. Support raised from the dinner and golf tournament ensures these veterans have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities.
The 2017 beneficiaries areThe Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarship to military children, and Semper Fi Fund, which provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Guests will gather for dinner September 9, 2017, at Las Colinas Country Club, along with event co-chairs Mike Marasco and Travis Wilson, to hear from local heroes and take part in a fabulous silent and live auction. On Monday, September 11, golfers will tee off at Las Colinas Country Club and enjoy an awards celebration with cocktails, bites and prizes after their day on the course.
For the past 21 years, photojournalist and military photographer Jeremy Lock directed his lens towards the elements of the world that many of us will never have the opportunity or even the desire to see first-hand. Lock is not only an accomplished military veteran receiving the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished service in Iraq, but his experience as a seasoned photojournalist has led to his work being published in magazines, newspapers and books including:National Geographic, Time, New York Times and The Washington Post,among others.
Hall of Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez is a retired Major League Baseball (MLB) player who played at the competitive professional level for more than 24 years and who statistically is considered the greatest defensive catcher in MLB history. On the field, Rodriguez was the recipient of numerous achievements and awards, including: MLB’s all-time games leader as catcher, 7-time silver slugger winner, 2003 World Series champion (Florida Marlins), 2003 NLCS MVP, 1999 AL MVP, 14 time All-Star, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Texas Rangers Hall of Fame, Latino Hall of Fame and his most recent award, 2017 Baseball Hall of Fame. After Rodriguez’s retirement from baseball, his love for the game endured and to this day he continues to be involved in the sport through his involvement as the Special Assistant to the General Manager of the Texas Rangers, coaching of various major and minor league ballplayers, as well as his work as a sports analyst for Fox Sports Southwest. Off the field, Rodriguez has and continues to be a well-versed businessman taking on a wide range of investments both domestically and abroad. Pudge also enjoys donating and giving his time to many different communities and non-profit organizations because giving back is a virtue he holds close.
In the past six years, Helping Our Heroes has given more than $760,000 from donations and matching funds to non-profit organizations, includingSemper Fi Fundand Folds of Honor. In 2017, the hope is to raise more than $200,000 to make a positive difference in the lives of veterans and their families through the programs they support.
This year’s fundraiser includes the dinner on September 9, 2017, at 6 p.m. atLas Colinas Country Clublocated at4400 N. O’Connor Road, Irving, Texas 75026, followed by a golf tournament on September 11, 2017. Registration begins at 8 a.m. followed by a Shotgun Start at 10 a.m. and an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. Dinner tickets are $175 each. Individual golfers are $500 and sponsorships begin at $1,500.
