Bill Mateja, a shareholder in Polsinelli’s Dallas office, has been selected as a recipient of the Texas Tech University School of Law’s 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award, in recognition of his significant contributions to the legal profession and the law school program.

The Texas Tech Law School Foundation Board recognizes alumni who have made an extraordinary impact on the bench, bar or in the community, and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to Texas Tech’s law school and the legal profession as a whole.

Mateja, a member of Polsinelli’s White Collar Defense & Government Investigations Practice Group, has long been a white collar trial lawyer with a particular focus on health care fraud and securities enforcement. A former prosecutor at the highest levels of the Department of Justice, Mateja was responsible for all the Department’s white collar operations, as well as the day-to-day workings of its corporate fraud task force. He also served as Special Counsel for health care fraud overseeing all of the Department’s health care fraud enforcement.  He currently represents Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in connection with the SEC enforcement and state criminal cases brought against him.

“Bill has built a reputation as a go-to attorney for complex government investigations and white collar matters,” said Jon Henderson, managing partner of Polsinelli’s Dallas office and chair of the firm’s national Corporate and Transactional Practice Group. “Bill’s extensive list of accomplishments and his devotion to higher education makes him the perfect recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award.”

Mateja is involved with his alma mater by serving as a trustee on the Texas Tech Law School Foundation, and taught as an adjunct professor for more than 10 years. He has earned numerous awards for his deep understanding of high-stakes matters, including D CEO Magazine’s 500 Most Powerful Business Leaders in Dallas-Fort Worth (2016 and 2017) and National Law Journal’s White Collar Crime Trailblazers (2015). Mateja earned his law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.
